Plant based diets are the hottest trend, but not everyone knows what that means or what they should do.  Great news, Canadians love hummus and hummus is the perfect jumping off place to start a healthy plant based routine.  To start, it is likely already in your fridge, but with all this new inspiration you may want to add a lot more to your grocery cart.  You can make hummus at home, but you do not have to, Summer Fresh makes hummus using the same ingredients that you would.

Hummus is incredibly versatile, you can eat it with pita or with your fresh veggies, the perfect grab and go snack, but we want to make sure you are never bored!  Last year we started to talk to consumers about eating #hummusallday, and these are the 7 suggestions that people could not get enough of!

  1. Breakfast. Starting with breakfast, more and more of us are finding our selves at home for breakfast and with more time than we previously had. An easy option is a take on avocado toast, just add hummus first, then top with avocado, sprinkle with some hemp hearts, and you have a filing, delicious start to your day that is full of plant protein and will keep you feeling full until lunch.
  2. Salad Dressing. As you start to think about lunch, make your favourite salad, and then top it with your new go -to hummus salad dressing. Take your favourite flavour of hummus, we recommend Summer Fresh Roasted Garlic, but any will do, add a splash of your favourite oil, a dash of apple cider vinegar, stir, and pour over your salad.  We promise you will want to eat salad every day!
  3. Sandwich Spread.  If your go to lunch involves bread a bagel or a pita, start with a thick layer of hummus, for this Summer Fresh Spicy hummus is perfect, but any hummus will make your sandwich better, and build from there.  Add cucumber slices, or lettuce greens, maybe some grilled red pepper, or even roasted dried chickpeas will give fantastic texture.  The options are endless.
  4. 10 Minute Pasta. If you are hungry and want a dinner that is faster than Uber Eats, grab a tub of Summer Fresh Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. Cook your favourite pasta a little al dente, and while it is cooking start the delicious sauce.  In a sauté pan, add a drizzle of your favourite oil, some garlic, a handful of vegetables that you might have on hand, sauté until soft, 2-4 minutes, add the full tub of Red Pepper Hummus and ½ cup of pasta water. Drain the pasta, add to the sauce, stir and cook for one more minute to let the pasta start to soak up some sauce, and serve!  Top with a sprinkle of fresh basil and a pinch of parmesan.
  5. Pizza! Our absolute favourite hack, so easy and delicious. Grab a naan bread, slather on hummus, our favourite is Summer Fresh Caramelized Onion, the hummus is the sauce, be generous, trust us! Layer on your cheese and favourite toppings, bake at 375°C for 10-12 minutes. You are welcome!
  6. Hummus or Buddha Bowls. Just thinking about these will make you healthier! Start with a thick layer of hummus, this is the base to your bowl, now you are going to layer on your toppings. You can build these as you wish, but here is our recommendation, half an avocado cubed, 1 cup of cucumber cubed, ½ cup of quinoa or brown rice (have this pre-cooked in your fridge when you meal prep). ½ cup Summer Fresh Bean Medley Salad (or a bean salad you had prepped), 2 Tbsp of hemp hearts or pumpkin seeds for crunch and a nutty flavour, drizzle with your favourite oil, admire how beautiful it is, then stir it all together and enjoy every bite!
  7. Snack and Go. Your go to carrot and celery sticks with a portion of hummus, this is an easy go to snack and provides good nutrition and satiety. Hummus for the win!

As you can tell we love hummus and we look forward to hearing from you, and how you #hummusallday.  Post your creations on Instagram and tag us with #hummusallday, and #summerfreshisfresh.  Summer Fresh, real food you can feel good about every day.
